MT2000 Replacement Quik Call tones

Hello everyone,

I currently have an MT2000 (VHF, front display, full keypad) radio that is being to show it’s age. The display has lost about half the pixels and the county has some newer ‘splinter’ frequencies that the MT2000 is unable to program. I’m looking at possible replacements but have not found a suitable solution to the following:

I occasionally work EMS and there is a possibility that I could be on six (6) different crews, each with their unique QC tone. I also have the fire department and rescue squad programmed into the radio for functions with them. I currently have in the MT2000 the tones set up in both an ‘alert’ type mode as well as a ‘monitor’ type mode.

Is there any newer radio that will allow at least 8 OC combinations? The PM400 or HT1550 come to mine? What about the too expensive XTS5000? I could settle for 8 but would rather have 15 or more.

I would rather stay with Motorola but if Kenwood or another manufacture makes a multi Quik Call radio I may consider them.

Here is my current setup for the MT2000 (Zone 2)

1 Fire Monitor (A-B & A-C)
2 Rescue Monitor (A-B & A-C)
3 Crew 1 Monitor (A-B)
4 Crew 2 Monitor (A-B)
5 Crew 3 Monitor (A-B)
6 Crew 4 Monitor (A-B)
7 Crew 5 Monitor (A-B)
8 Crew 6 Monitor (A-B)
9 Fire Alert (A-B & A-C)
10 Rescue Alert (A-B & A-C)
11 Crew 1 Monitor* (A-B)
12 Crew 2 Alert (A-B)
13 Crew 3 Alert (A-B)
14 Crew 4 Alert (A-B)
15 Crew 5 Alert (A-B)
16 Crew 6 Alert (A-B)

*I couldn’t find away to have more than 15 combinations so I left Crew 1 as Monitor. It is generally a daytime only truck and is not a big inconvenience.

I also have about 6 different scan lists and multi zones depending on the scenario in which I’m using the radio. The MT2000 is by far the most full featured radio I have own and other that the splinter channels I would continue to use it.

Oh, come on, surely someone has an answer.

Is there any current production radio that will allow multiple Quik Call tones similar to the MT2000? A friend said an HT-1250 would only do four sets and the PM400 I have messed with I could only do four sets.

I’ve never dealt with an XTS2500 or XTS5000; will it do 8 sets or more?

By Quik Call tones I mean ‘sets’ such that one set would be one pair (A-B) or one dual pair (A-B & A-C).

In other words I would like to have at a minimum 8 separate sets (A-B or A-B/A-C).

Anyone know of a current radio like this?

A XTS 5000 will allow 20 seperate QCII "systems". I would assume an XTS 2500 would handle about the same amount, but I don't know for certain.

There is also an open FSB on the display losing pixels, you can send it in for free repair to the depot.

The shop I worked for would replace the front cover on a walk-in basis and handle the warranty paperwork and exchange for the customer. Check with your local Motorola shop.

Disregard the above post. I just saw the thread from Escomm a few lines down. Apparently they've tightened up the requirements quite a bit since I retired. We used to replace the whole front cover and send a batch of front covers for warranty replacements. Never had a problem back then and made it convenient for the customer. All good things must end!
