MTC3600 SmartNet; Transmission Trunking

Post by nesha »

Hi All,
What needs to be done in order to change MTC3600 to Transmission trunking. All my radios were programmed in "Message trunking". I'm aware that I need to reprogram all my radios to "Transmission trunking" conversaton type. Does it mean that I need new MTC3600 codeplug from Motorola? I do not have any as-built documentation but I think my controller has been configured to message trunking. I tried to reprogram few radios to transmission trunking just for the test but there is still "hang time" after radio dekeyed. I have never had a chance to see SmartNet set up in transmission trunking as I am former EDACS tech.
Does transmission trunking configuration eliminate "hang time"?
Thanks!

You can simply set the hang time in the controller to 'zero'...or perhaps 100ms...I've never tried to set it to zero. I don't have the manuals in front of me, but believe it's under the "parm" prompt. Will try & check for you at work.

You will have to get a new codeplug from Motorola. Message or Transmission trunking format is hardcoded in the codeplug. You will then have to do a codeplug upgrade which can be a very trying process if things don't go well. Transmission trunking will eliminate the hangtime as the repeater drops as soon as the subscriber radio dekeys. Message trunking will keep the repeater hanging for a programmed period of time in order for a conversation to continue without loosing the channel and potentially being busied out if the system is busy.

I checked into it & it is indeed in the 'PARM' settings to vary the hangtime of the repeaters. There are 3 separate timers you'd want to change...carrier, trunk & fade. Commands would be:

PARM> CARR x.y

PARM> T x.y

PARM> F x.y

Where x = seconds and y = tenths of a second

Unfortunately, the manual doesn't specify what the minimum time can be, and I don't have a system to test it on. I suspect 0.1 seconds will be the lowest, however that will essentially emulate transmission trunking in the system, without the cost of a new codeplug from Motorola...somewhere around the $1500 mark, I think.
