I have a MTS2000 UHF Model III and doesn't have any audio unless i smack it on the side then audio comes through. Seems like something may be loose or something, but i can't find what it is. Seems like sometimes when i power it up it will work, but then goes back to not hearing. But pretty reliably comes back on if i smack it on the side then will lose audio after a short time.
Where to look? Anyone had this problem?
I've checked all connectors, ribbon, etc, not sure what is causing it. Put in a new display board, etc., still doesn't work.
thanks for any help

Re: MTS2000 Audio Question
I'll assume you have checked that your speaker and its connections are solid.
If you're satisfied that the control flex and front cover flex are both aligned and firmly seated in their connectors, go on to check the board connector next. If the radio is dropped or banged hard enough it can come loose (not often though). It can also work loose if the radio has been disassembled and the shield removed (more likely).
Newer Jedi models have a removeable, rigid socket type board connector that looks like a spider. Remove it and then firmly reseat it AS WELL AS CHECKING THE SOLDER JOINTS CONNECTING THE CONNECTORS TO THE BOARDS.. Older models have a short (1" or so) flex between the boards which is soldered into place. These older flex types may rarely suffer bad solder connections.

Re: MTS2000 Audio Question
Thanks Terry, I'll check it out. I'm positive of a good seat on the flex and the speaker, I have a few radio's so tried different display boards and speakers so its not a speaker connection, its something on the main board. It hasn't been disassembled by me since I've had it other than the cover and connecting flex. I'll look at the other things you suggested and report back, sounds like its a possibility.
Re: MTS2000 Audio Question
tried reseating the connector between the two boards and looking at the solder joints, no go, still does the same thing

Re: MTS2000 Audio Question
I've had 3 Jedis that did the same thing. Re-seating the board connector fixed 2 of them, but it won't be so simple on the third one. It works perfectly, then the audio will go down next to nothing, then I whack it and it sounds OK and works perfectly again for a day or so. I know it is a minute solder defect on one of the boards at one of the connector legs, I just can't see it... I'll tackle it one of these days with a magnifying glass and a mini-soldering gun... when I'm in a relaxed mood.
