I have a 6 watt range 1 VHF analog Saber III that will not work when it gets too warm. When it dies all the display segments are turned on (just like when the power is first turned on) and it remains stuck like this. I have found that putting it in a freezer for a few minutes will restore it to operational status. Too warm might be from leaving it in the vehicle on a hot day (not in direct sunlight) or at some point during normal duty cycle transmitting (it dies in the middle of a contact). It seems like a main board problem.
My question for the experienced Saber repair people, is if this is a common/known type of problem with a known fix?

Re: Analog Saber problem
check all modules to see if they are not seated correctly or you might have a bad solder joint on the main board...
I DON'T WANT A LARGE FARVA I WANT A GOD*&^*& LITER OF COLA!
Re: Analog Saber problem
Does the case actually feel warm after a little while? I had a saber years ago that had a bad PA. Changed that out & everything was fine.
Re: Analog Saber problem
The radio doesn't get any warmer than I would expect, either from Tx use or from a hot vehicle interior.
Thanks everyone for the information. I was hoping for a magic wand fix

Re: Analog Saber problem
I suspect the clock crystal is drifting with temperature. Not a real easy thing to check unless you have a Saber break-out kit, or perhaps a known good crystal to switch with.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.
