XTS Astro 25 Series

Post by W3MOT »

Evening,

I'm trying to decide on an XTS2500 or a 5000. But first, I had several questions.

On the XTS1500's, I see that the print "XTS1500" is sometimes in different colors (IE Yellow, Gold, and Purple.) Does this have a specific meaning?

What is the difference between an XTS2500-I and a regular XTS? IS Rated?

What are the main differences that you notice in the 2500's vs. the 5000's operational wise? Which radio did you choose between the two and why?

A little about my situation:

I am currently using XTS3000's, MTS2000's, HT1000's and Astro Sabers. I have a radio for each band (800, UHF, and VHF) I want a radio that I can store a large amount of frequencies in (obviously.) In my area, there is 109 Fire Departments, about 37 Ambulance Companies, and about 10 different Police agencies. 85% of these agencies are on 800MHz, and UHF. Eventually, I'll be getting 6 of the radios that I've chose to go with. (One for each band, and an extra one to make my Gang Charger look full. I recently had a problem where someone thought they would be funny and inhibit my XTS3000. Even though I had the RX MDC Personality set without Radio Inhibit, some how they still managed to Zap it. The best part was it was on a Ham frequency. I want to be able to decode MDC without having to worry about that.

So if anyone has any suggestions, let's hear it!

Consult with the various system administrators. They can tell you what radios they will allow on the various systems. This assumes, of course, that you are an authorized user - right?
