T3010AX KVL Upgrade Question

Post by KE9GK »

Hello all,

Looking to see if anyone can help me out with an upgrade to my AX revision DVP KVL to support ASTRO keyloading. I have a few AS3's and Astro Spectras with the DVP/DES-XL dual hybrid in them and would like to be able to load both algorythms for reverse interoperability with some older (DVP ONLY) analog spectras still running around in my fleet until they can all get swapped out. I have a 3011CX that was upgraded to a DX and works just fine on all my astro equipment...so I would assume that the same would hold true with the 3010. I just cant justify the $$ for a KVL3000 (with all the algorythms I would like) for the few times its ever gonna get used.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That is correct, the 3010 never had an upgrade for it.

GRRRRR...that was not the news that I wanted to hear!! Does this mean that all DVP KVL's are non upgradable....or just the AX revisions?

I believe the T3010CX can be upgraded to DX.

I've not seen one in my travels, but anything from MOL is possible.

Panik electronics has a cx to dx kit listed for sale. MOL discontinued the upgrade kits long ago from what I know.

I've cobbled together a few shreds of memories to come up with the following. It should not at all be considered accurate without further research. I've only owned 3011xX loaders and I've assumed the others are the same but for firmware and hybrids (DES, DVP, DVP-XL, ...etc).

AX - no upgrades possible. If I'm not mistaken, the firmware PROM and/or memory chips were not socketed on the AX boards (among other changes) and are easily identified on sight.
BX - Upgrade of firmware PROM and EEPROM memory. Specifications escape me.
CX - Upgrade of firmware PROM.
