Saber III modulation problem

Post by arlojanis »

My Saber III has been in storeage for 7 or 8 years. I tried to use it today and it has no voice modulation from the internal mic, no PL mod, and DPL mod is twice normal. Any ideas on what the problem is? Receive is good.

Do you have voice mod with an external mic? U101 is the audio filter for tx and rx audio. This IC also contains the PL/DPL generator. C18, C19 and C20 are audio filter caps during tx and two of these control the PL & DPL modulation levels (I think C18 controls PL and C19 controls DPL). Modulation output from the IC then goes to the VCO. Since you do have DPL mod (even though it's high), I do not suspect the VCO.
