Serial Port on impres gang charger

Does anyone what what the serial port is used for ?

Impres chargers are intelligent (sort of) units, therefore they run on firmware which can be upgraded from time to time. That's what the port is for.

Kinda sorta maybe not really.

There is what looks like a serial port on an Impres rack charger. However, closer inspection will show you that it's actually a HD15 connector, not a DB9. Likewise, if you pull one apart and look at the wiring, you'll see that this connector has pins that go to each board, and plug into one of two display ports. My guess is it is/was a planned future option to be able to connect chargers to some sort of data aggregator.

Anyway, for firmware upgrades you still need to pull apart the unit and update each board one at a time, and each display one at a time.
