Swapping maratrac control heads

Post by jskaggs »

I have a A7 control head and cable forma low split vhf-lo band maratrac. Can this head work with a vhf-hi band maratrac. I know the low band has an option board in the head not found in the hi bands but not much more. Thanks

There are two types of A7 heads: those with the squelch pot and those without. The control head with the squelch pot is intended for the low band with the audio/squelch board that utilizes the two normally unused wires in the control cable. The MaraTracs without the control head squelch control aren't internally "wired" for external squelch control, and the audio/squelch board isn't set up for it and doesn't see it, so the high band should work normally and won't care about the squelch control. Worst case scenario, open the control head and pull the squelch pot connector from the socket and secure it.
curmudgeon.....and I like it.
