Upgrade an MTS2000 from DOS RSS to Windows RSS?

Post by alannerd614 »

Good evening all,

Does anyone know how (or if you can) you can upgrade an MTS2000 that was programmed in DOS RSS, to use in Windows RSS?

I can read it all day long on Windows, but it doesn't accept it when I write it.

What's the firmware version in your radio?

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Should work. Once you program in windows CPS though, the DOS rss will no longer read that radio. What version firmware is in the radio? What version of Windows CPS are you using? What version of DOS RSS was last used to program the radio? Are you sure the PC, rib and cables are functional? Have you tried them on another radio?

The problem sounds like the radios firmware might be too low to play nice with CPS.. I have seen this many times where it will read just fine, but won't write it.... Or, it's an MTX or MT controller that has an MTS plug forced into it... They will also sometimes read as an MTS with CPS, but usually won't write...

according to my CPS manual for MTS2000, anything lower than 5.41 is not compatible with CPS. Now I have read and written some 5.2x radios before, but that was back in 2004 with CPS R01.xx

The older 1.xx radios (pre-Flashport 256K) controllers definitely won't work, and in fact may cause a FAIL 01/92 corrupted codeplug message (personal experience) when attempting to write. (the newer CPS just refuses to write to them)

When you say it won't write to the radio, are you getting an error message or what is it doing? And if you are getting an error message, what does it say?

THATS THE CRAZY THING!!! ;)

No error message whatsoever.

I even tried this:

Read radio in windows.

Write it with no changes.

Read it again to look at the "Programming History" and it still shows DOS as its last programming.

Crazy and FRUSTRATING!

So from the looks of things, when you click "write radio", it all appears to write?

Yep.

And here is the new kicker....

I can read it in DOS. When I write it in DOS, if I remove more than one channel from the ZCA, it will write, but like windows, the changes dont show.

Whats the flashcode of the radio according to CPS and according to the radio in service mode? I've seen cases where the CPS will do exactly what you state its doing, but won't ever really write due to differences in the flashcode. (i.e. the CPS shows one flashcode, while the radio service mode shows another)
