VRS750 Scanning function

Post by akabig_bad_ford »

Im needing some info on the VRS750, I have one configured with my VHF Astro and the question is when I have it enabled it works fine but when I hit the Scan button it turns off, is there a way to have the radio still scan and retransmit the audio over the packrat and the Atro only transmit on the priority channel or current channel your on, any info will be appreciated, Thanks Cody

Nope, you can either have scan and no VRS, or no scan and VRS. Now, if you had a real PAC-RT unit it could be easily done as the PAC-RT doesn't really care.

The VRS allows for channel steering and the whole nine yards based on PL used, and if that aspect is configured.

I have/had the same issue with my VRS-EP and Astro Spectra. My CDM1550 has a PAC-RT hooked to it and use it when scanning. idk if the Pyramid PAC-RT type units for sale on eBay can do it, but I'd venture a guess that they could.

I've just got a minute to reply, but I believe that you can scan with the VRS750 enabled. I am getting two of the VRS750's and was talking to a radio tech about that issue. He said the you can program PL codes into the portable to enable and disable the Spectra's scan. If you have an MPL list you can alias the PL names with "scan on' and "scan off". It can be done. I'll have to research more. In the mean time go into the CPS and play around with the VRS menus.

The VRS750 is able to do channel steering via PL tones, I think up to 7- at least that's the limit with the VRS-EP.

I don't even think you can steer to an "auto scan" channel and expect it to work I may have already tried that here with negative results.

Scan with VRS is an extra flashcode option, W357. It would have to be added to the radio. Of course this is what I have read and never had experience with an Astro Spectra using a VRS.

I have verified you need this option to have scan with vrs.
