Astro CPS takes more than a minute to load...

ACKK!!

I am trying to run Astro CPS 5.03.00 on my home computer. It takes FOREVER to load. I timed it, over a minute. This also affects all the Astro 25 CPS (R12.00.00)

I get system keys loaded almost immediately, but then the hourglass just sits there and rotates. If I try to close the program I get the 'failed to respond' message.

Windows XP Pro SP3 2gigs ram, 4 terabyte hard drive. Athlon 64 proc, 2.61gb. Asus m/b with hard serial ports.
Other programs running at the same time are not affected.

This started recently (or at least I noticed it, hadn't used this PC for programming in 6 months or so) and is driving me NUTS!
What am I looking for? Firewall issue? Some process that I have denied as useless in XP causing a conflict? Is this some kind of a problem with the .net features??

How would I find out? Any geekiness happily awaited.....

Found the problem to this one.....

If you are using the MAXIM iButton SDK or any iButton packages, the drivers interfere with the native drivers in Astro and Astro 25 which are looking for Advanced Keys and other USB devices....

The software creates a registry key over and over and over...... I counted more than 45,000 attempts to create a key, compare it to something in one of the DLL's and then delete the key. It eventually times out after about two minutes.

Deleting the iButton BETA SDK and reinstalling the previous full release removed the loop. I have contacted MAXIM about this issue with the beta....
