MTS2000 and RIBless cable
I just purchased a RIBless cable for the MT/MTS2000 off of ebay. I dont know which version CPS we have at my Rescue Squad I will find out later but when the Radio is in service mode it says R5.something. I am gunna assume that since we have the cps for the MTS2000 that is the one it was programmed with but should I expect any issues with the RIBless cables?

Re: MTS2000 and RIBless cable
ok its R.05.01 for the firmware number
Re: MTS2000 and RIBless cable
I have found with the generic cables like the one you purchased... Don't expect anything. I have had very inconsistent results with cables like these. Works on some model radios, not on others. I've even had them work on one radio and not another of the same model.njemt7212 wrote:should I expect any issues with the RIBless cables?
I purchased one of those from that vendor. I have found that that particular cable works on the XTS series and not on the HT1000, MT2000, MTS2000 etc. Which somewhat makes sense because the genuine Motorola brand cables for those models is different also. I use genuine Motorola Smart RIB for those radios as recommended by Motorola. I have found that most of the Hong Kong / China generic RIB to radio cables (ones without the RIB built in) seem to be OK in quality. Problems are usually with the electronics of the built in RIB. I suggest that you use a separate good quality RIB and cable for the MTS2000.

Re: MTS2000 and RIBless cable
I am going to assume that the cable wont damage the radio because if the cable is crap then I wouldnt be able to read/write correct? and should it not work then I will send it back.
Re: MTS2000 and RIBless cable
That all depends. It may not work at all, it may work just fine, or it may intermittently fail during radio write, leaving you with a brick. You've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?
Re: MTS2000 and RIBless cable
I know a few people with the MTS2000 RIBLess cables. The ones that work well seem to have a genuine MAX232 in them. The ones from KAWA (like in your ebay URL) usually have them but you never know.
You can get a RIB and the MTS2000 cable for under 50.00 from KAWA. Thats what I have.

Re: MTS2000 and RIBless cable
ok thanks alot guys, well its one of 3 spares so if I brick it, i am not that much in trouble but Kawa has the refund policy so if the cable dont work I will just send it back. Then maybe my squad will listen to me about the extra money to spend.
Re: MTS2000 and RIBless cable
just an update for you guys, I got the cable and waht do you know it wont read the radio in CPS, but If i read the radio in RSS 6.05, it states code plug to new for application which means it read the entire codeplug, so I got a MT 2000 and it reads fine in RSS just not the CPS because I have MTS cps.
Re: MTS2000 and RIBless cable
I know this sounds elementary, but make sure the com port is set right in CPS. If it is working in dos that leads me to believe that it is something wrong with the software rather than the hardware.njemt7212 wrote:just an update for you guys, I got the cable and waht do you know it wont read the radio in CPS, but If i read the radio in RSS 6.05, it states code plug to new for application which means it read the entire codeplug, so I got a MT 2000 and it reads fine in RSS just not the CPS because I have MTS cps.

alright, well I tried two different MTS2000 which leads me to believe that the firmware is too low. r05.01. but i got a mt2000 so cps is no longer an option anyway. thanks for the help.
