Post by modatking »

Are all Sabers ( I, IE, II ), any flashcode capeable of MDC600?

Is the same true with the Spectra ?

Analog Sabers do not have flashcodes. They are defined by their "cores". 5D is the most common core. 6D added quickcall? and something else, and 8D I think had some more advanced MDC functions. Its been awhile.

In short, I haven't ran across a saber than couldn't do MDC600 is you really need it. Like the rest of the cores, its one format radiowide. You cannot select MDC600 for one mode, and MDC1200 for another.

I don't recall seeing MDC600 as a spectra supported format. The last radio's that I recall supporting MDC600 was the Syntor line, and required and addon board. Your looking at radio's that that were released in the 70's and early 80's.

MDC600 is an option on my 1994 Spectra (A5, 6.15MLM), but I never used it.

MDC600 sounds simialar to the GE* (star) format. You could say that data sounded lower in pitch.

However, with MDC1200 (at least as the X9000's are concerned) it depended on the board and firmware chip. I owned several x9000's with MDC, and they all had a little different sound to them.

On the Spectras, Moflag 11, bit 0 is MDC600. Not sure if there's a certain MLM rev that is isn't available in.
