Base Scanner Antenna Questions
Hey guys. I had a thread a while back on yalls opinion on a RX only antenna. Well I picked up a trunk lip quater wave mount antenna recently on a trade. So I decided to mount it outside, upstairs on a bedroom dormer. Its made a world of difference on both highband and low. Here's my question though. When we move to our new house we will have fake dormers on the roof. It will be a one story house. My question is, will a all band scanner antenna mounted inside the dormer out perform a quarter wave lip mount outside the dormer? Also what do yall recommend as far as cable? Im only gonna have to go about 30 ft. Id like to run my coax before we do the sheetrock on the walls. I though of running my coax to a wall plate. That way to could run a short jumper cable from my reciever to the wall and just plug into the wall. But Im afraid that addition og connections my cause considerable loss. My goal is to have exceptional RX quality. But Im not out to spend a fortune. And about 25ft is high as I can go.

Re: Base Scanner Antenna Questions
Depends on your home construction. I have a metal roof on my house and it significantly shields my reception, even the cellphone
goes from 3 bars in the driveway to 1 or Zero inside as I go room to room. Guess aluminum siding and if the insulation bats are backed with foil would reduce things as well. Bar shielding problems a base scanner antenna should work better than that 1/4 wave mobile antenna which depends on some metal under it (like the car body) to do it's best job.

where it will be mounted will likely be plywood plus stucco. Will be near the window and the roof has shingles. Not really any metal to deflect. I may just get a all band from radio shack or somewhere and try it and see ho it goes. Or is there a brand yall recommend?

The Radio Shack discone antenna is one of the few antennas that is a decent product from "You've got questions.... We've got dumb looks."dbfd588 wrote:where it will be mounted will likely be plywood plus stucco. Will be near the window and the roof has shingles. Not really any metal to deflect.
