CDM1250 Display Problem

Post by jchabalie »

I have a Motorola CDM1250. It recieves fine however, the front screen will not show the channels. It only has a few icons on the top of the screen and lights up. Could the head on the front of the radio be bad or is there a loose connection inside? I am unable to see what channel it is on and the recieve and scan lights just flash for no reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kill the power. Pop the control head off. Make sure the circuit board is firmly seated inside the control head (push it in). Also make sure the ribbon connector is fully inserted on both ends. Let us know if that helps.

I did that and everything appeared to be fine inside. I snapped the control head back on and still the same. I left it alone for a little while and when I looked at it again the screen was working normally and it transmits and recieves well. Thank you for the help.

Silly question...are mode names programmed for each mode?

I would assume so, since he indicated the problem was solved & the display was working properly. I suspect intermittant operation of the conductive "zebra strips" which connect the LCD to the control head board display circuitry contacts. Usually due to dirt or oxidation.

I had a friend look at the radio and he said that it was water damaged. Would water damage make it work properly at times and not properly at others?

Absolutely, it's a classic symptom. It's the reason why most repair shops won't even look at water damaged equipment...you can't guarantee you've fixed the issues, even though they may go away after repair...for a while.

Ok. Thanks everyone for the help. I guess I will just have to break down and buy a new one. And maybe watch who I buy from on e-bay.
