Will a T3011AX not program a Saber with NTN5833C modules?

Post by canonninja »

Totally new to the board, so excuse my ignorance in my first post. Basic rundown...

I have 3 very nice, almost like-new Saber IIs I bought of ebay a while back. Probably recased, but very good condition non-the-less. Pulled them apart to check the secure modules, all show to be NTN5833C modules.

So, I went online found a cheap T3011AX, bought a Hi-Rose adapter (6-pin, no center conductor), and a TKN8531C KVL cable (also 6-pin).

Now, I thought I had a working system, but I get a "FAIL" message on the KVL when trying to load a key. So I just have the wrong KVL, cable, or combo thereof?

Overall all looks good, but there are some anomalies that don't seem well documented. Ex:
I run DVP on Saber 1 and 3's. Everything works fine on the 1's but when I put the same modules
into my 3's key retention is lost every time I turn the radios off (battery still attached). When
I use a different part # (more recent vintage modules) all is fine with the 3's. So apparently some combinations don't play well. I'd take look in programming and make sure the 'XL' option is disabled and if that don't do it you might need to try some other DES part numbered modules
(at least they're real cheap at this point should be under $10) Good luck

well, i went down to BearCom here in Houston, some awesome people by the way, and played around with it. Turns out, it was the cable I have, more so the Saber Hi-Rose adapter. I used one of their Saber-specific KVL cables, which mirrors an Astro Saber hi-rose adapter (all pins + 3 at the top left), and all my radios immediately displayed "KEY LOAD."

Astro Saber Hi-Rose (and same layout of the Saber KVL Cable)

I guess my question now would be, for future use, would my cable work with an Astro Saber Hi-Rose adapter?

No, I would say for future use return the bad HiRose connector you were sold and buy one that works. The world is full of aftermarket cables and connectors that don't work.

On the positive side, it's good hear that you were able to find local help from the Bearcom guys.

You think is a bad Hi-Rose adapter? The cable I have is genuine Moto kit, not so sure about the radio adapter. I did notice though that the pin layout is different, between the "Saber/Systems Saber" and the "Astro Saber" adapters.

Like I said earlier, sorry for my ignorance to this stuff, still picking up as I go.

Not all Saber hirose adapters will work. The one's stamped with a 'D" are known to work but the absence of the stamp does not mean it won't work. Confusing, I know.

It's discussed a bit here and here.
