Saber II Scan Problem with Audio

Post by grinder »

I've got a couple saber IIs, one of them has an odd problem with the audio when scanning. Both sabers II have the same codeplug. When I'm scanning and the radio locks onto a signal I get a cycling sound in the audio, sort of a drop every half second or so. When I go directly to the channel, no such sound is heard, it's only when scanning. My other Saber II does not do this, it has clean audio in scan mode. Any ideas?

The drop in audio is the radio checking the other channels for activity while scanning, but if you go to the active freq, it now becomes the prioriry channel so the radio doesn't scan
looking for activity. My MTS 2000's & Astro Sabers do that too. I don't know why your second radio doesn't do that. GARY N4KVE

I have also noticed that 2 older 512K Astro Sabers with old host/dsp which I own and programmed the same as the 1 meg ones have a much more pronounced cut in the audio while scanning. Maybe your Sabers are from different generations. GARY N4KVE

That's what I suspected. Thanks for the confirmation.

Unless you NEED priority scanning, turn it off and the holes go away.

The Sabers, x9000's and Spectra's have a faster "look back time" than the newer radios. I think they are at 250ms, whereas the newer radios are at 550ms. The newer radios can be adjusted to do it faster or slower, this is why on the astro's seem to have a more pronunced click with its default setting.
