Converting a XTS3000 Model II to a Model I
I have a Motorola XTS3000 that I bought that is of the Model II type, but I need too convert it to a Model I as someone slapped a Model I case on it, and now the radio doesn't work because it doesn't see the Display, or Keypad. How can this be attemped? the Radio is flashed for IMBE, so I don't want too loose that feature.

Why not just buy a model two front cover (complete).
Then you don't have a radio that has been hacked from what it was originally.

I would if someone had one for a cheap price. I've never seen a complete Radio case with keypad, and display On ebay.

The LCD, and keyboard are not included with the housing. The LCD's are very scarce, Motorola does not have any in stock, and they have not had for months. They last update that I heard was at least June, or July.
What problems are you having with the radio? It should not mater if the LCD, and keypad are in place. I had a Model 1 with a MIII codeplug in it that I used in an XTVA, and it worked fine.

Okay, it has now occured too me that the seller on ebay said that the original case for the radio was swapped too fix another radio, and that the case from that radio ended up on the one I have. Whats happening is It doesn't transmit, there's no Audio, and the rotary dial light isn't coming on when I change channels.

Did you take the radio apart and make sure everything is plugged in where it should be? (just thinking out loud here...)

Well I think I might of had someone figure out the problem. First of all the green power light is on for about 7seconds before it goes out, when you power on the radio. Looking at the tracking info in CPS the DSP ver is R00.00.00. Could this mean that the firmware in the radio is bad, and needs too be restored?

Sounds like you bought an expensive brick.
You should see about getting your money back from the seller.
If you used eBay, and a credit card or PayPal, you can file a chargeback if they are unwilling to refund your money.
This sounds like an easy way to unload a non-working radio.

I know someone that has parts too fix it, and or fix the codeplug so it'll work.

Good luck.
Let us know how it turns out.

What else is needed to restore the radio?
Re: Converting a XTS3000 Model II to a Model I
If the DSP is indeed 00.00.00 you may NOT be able to restore the radio.
Most firmware/DSP flashes require the radio to be operating, hence my comment on seeing if you can get your money back...

Re: Converting a XTS3000 Model II to a Model I
If it powers up enough to the point that you said you were able to read it with CPS and see the DSP show R00.00.00, then it can be restored...

Stupidity creates job security!
If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..
CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Yes I am able too still read/and write the radio with CPS, it's jsut that because it's missing the DSP rev the radio is non functional.

Again - Good luck, and let us know what happens.

Just for fyi this is the radio.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0382983013
"Up for sale is 1 Motorola Astro XTS3000 VHF radio. This radio is complete and I will include a motorola original battery. This unit is sold for parts. It powers up, but the green light stays on and it does not give a post beep. The case is in good condition, so are all internal boards, there is no sign of water or physical damage to any internal part. The rear frame is slightly bent at the top. The frame was swapped with another radio to repair that one. Item is sold as is, for parts. It reads with cps, shows a recent 7.x host but does not show a dsp revision. But it is an IMBE radio."

Re: Converting a XTS3000 Model II to a Model I
Okay it's been fixed. It'll be left as a model II and the Model I case is good. So now I'll be looking for a Display, and keypad, as I have a Type II case now.
