Motorola (MARTI) L1159A Radiotelephone Interconnect

Post by Ki4HZP »

Hello, I have spent some time looking over the old general discussion posts for information on someone who may be able to help me obtain a PDF or a hard copy of a user/service manual for an old “L1159A” interconnect.

I have just acquired one of the L1159A units already wired into a Motorola R100 “looks to be originally configured by Motorola” and I would like to continue to use it as the auto patch mode after I reprogram what might be manipulative for our use. ( I need the manual )

The old posts give good information on the actual builder of the unit and that Motorola never officially put together a manual of their own but one did accompany the unit when new from the builder. I sent private messages to the group individuals that helped with getting a copy to the people in need years ago but so far no response from them.

If you’re reading this and know how I can obtain a manual please let me know. Contact me on or off the post. As with all like requests for documentation of this nature, I would be willing to trade, donate or cover the cost to copy and send the manual to me here in Florida.

Thanks, Sonny

Is there a model number tag on the MRTI you have that identifies it as an L1159A?

Some people make the mistake of thinking that any MRTI is an L1159A, but there were several models. In particular there was a mini-MRTI made just to go with the R100. Motorola sold a boat-load of those. It's about 9"x7"x2".

The L1159A is much larger.

You would hate to go on a quest for a manual and then end up with the wrong one.

Yes, the nomenclature is in tact on the (big) L1159A. I do have several “mini-MRTI” running on several R100 units in play. I also have a partial manual for the small units should someone need help with them.

Now you know the reason for my quest to get a manual for the L1159A. With this one that looks like it was originally set up by Motorola (or a dealer) on the R100, I have the cabling interface pin-out in front of me.

After I verify the L1159A is “fully operational” (just like the mini TDN7406A unit) the big L1159A has some on board “test” buttons to manually check trigger functions like pick up the dial tone, test DTMF exc. All indicators point to a good unit so far and after I find out how to manipulate and test the rest of it with the use of the manual, we will have the ability to help others get one connected to their R100 if they want to. I’m very curious to see just how manipulative this one is over the smaller unit. As you may know, the TDN7406A is a very good basic auto patch with little changeable features specifically the 2 choices ONLY of how to access a dial tone and terminate the call. I’m hopping the L1159A offers more interface choices for the sysop and the DTMF functions during programming.

Thanks for the help in clarifying exactly what my needs are,

I need the manual for the larger L1159A for sure!

Ok everyone, I have what I need. I can tell you from the looks of things you will not get very far without documentation on the L1159A. Thanks for fast help. sw
