IC package

Post by RADIOMAN2002 »

Anybody know what the package description of the CPU in the CDM-1250 is. I am specifically looking for the 68hc11fldpu1.r

I believe the MC68HC11 processor seen in the CDM's is a TQFP (Thin Quad Flat Pack) 100 pin device. Outside of ordering from Motorola I could not find anywhere else the processor is available in that package. Just curious what's up with the microprocessor?

It is a 80 pin, surface mount type. The information on that particular processor is very limited(in house maybe). I have found that it could be either an extended internal EE-Prom version or no internal EE-Prom. My project is to see if I move the flash chip from one radio version to another (non LTR/Passport to LTR/Passport), does the radio think its the other version. I'm thinking that all the operating instructions for the processor are in the Flash not the processor. That includes the serial number.

On the CDM's for the controllers T2 through T12 - U101 on each of them is a 100 Pin device according to the service manual I have. Not all pins are used but the count goes up to 100 for the device The Moto part numbers for most of the controllers are 5102226J56 and some have 5185143E03. Maybe there is another controller with an 80 Pin device but the service manual I have does not show it.

From what I have seen and read in the service manual, The EEPROM chip U0121 (Atmel - AT49F040) holds the firmware for the radio. The firmware from what I see is independent of the mobile radio model and region and when you upgrade the firmware it does say in the utility all regions supported.. LS/non LS, etc all use the same firmware. U0111 is another EEPROM that holds the codeplug according to the manual - that device is where the radio is told whether it is an LS model/CDM 750/1250/1550 or not. I guess you could swap out U0111 perhaps and then the radio would think its different but an inofficial waris upgrade tool that has been talked about on this board lets you force in a codeplug to do this via software - no desoldering/resoldering/opening up the case required so why risk potentially damaging a board doing that when do you not have to? Unless of course the EEPROMS are bad themselves then you have no choice but to replace them if you can.

Based on that I'd the processor like what you see in a PC, etc does the number crunching. I'd say The real info on what the processor is going to do are in those two EEPROMS.

Yes , I stand corrected, I was reading info on a different processor. It is a 100pin lqfp, and what I read is that the Flash ram holds the operating system. What I find interesting is there is virtually no information on this specific processor 68hc11fl0. So my first test is going to be to change out the 4mbit flash ram from one radio to another. Another interesting fact, the 255 channel conventional model with LTR/Passport main board is not available as a service part. All the other models are. I have heard that the European models use a 8mbit flash, but can not confirm this. This may be an easier way to upgrade an existing radio to what you want than through software.
