DataTAC modem help needed (PRM240)

Post by Pj »

I have a PRM240 installed in my MW800. WinRSS 3.x can talk to it, CPU diagnostic can turn it on/off (also verified by the status light on the modem itself).

Now here is where it gets weird.

-CPU Diag reports the radio type as unknown

-TX Messenger does not see it. However if you turn the modem on/off quickly, it will report On and connected for about 5 sec, then show it off again. It does not show any settings, etc.

-WinRSS will let you enable RF monitir and it scans all the channels, but it will not stop on any. It does show RSSI for each, but quaility any BER never change.

I can get into local monitor and send ATZ to it and it will return "OK"

Is there any way to do a hard reset on this? Any thoughts?

Com 3, 9600, XON/OFF all the way around. ModemByWillo=TRUE in the .ini settings for TX.

My guess is something got zapped in the modem and its just not completely going into modem mode. I am thinking a firmware jolt or somehow some sort of command sent for a reset may do the trick. Data support is scratching their head as well.

We use Tiburon here not TX Messenger but when "current modem state" is "scanning" not "Data" then the radio is not in the system or bad rf path.
I hopes this helps.

I am 99% convinced that the modem is in some sort of "command" state and just needs a good old kick in the ass. Data support can't figure it out. I've sent the OEM an email in hoping for a way to go. These are actually made my Wavenet out of Austrialla. Looks like they have a few other neat products.

Your diagnostic shot shows it connected to com4, as the others show com 3, maybe thats why modem shows as unknown in it.

COM4 is the internal connection to the MW800 functions/CPU codeplug/health, etc.

Try to read with Winrss and reload same, then do a modem reset.
I take it that it did work before. Do you have another to compare with?
