CDM VHF/UHF Crossband Delay with RICK

Post by nick.dejohn »

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this but, I'll give it a shot. I have set up in my truck (2) Motorola CDM1550's; one VHF and one UHF. I have a RICK controller connected to them so that I can cross band the 2 mobiles in a bi-directional format. The VHF radio is setup as the receive radio and the UHF is set up as the transmit radio. Everything works great with one exception. When the RICK is enabled and the UHF radio is receiving something, the beginning part of that message is being cut off in the process of sending it through the RICK to the VHF radio.

Is there some programming in the mobile radios that I can do to minimize or eliminate that delay so I can get the whole conversation. I am pretty sure that the problem is in both directions. I don't notice it as much going from VHF to UHF because I am using MDC1200 on my portables.

Any suggestions from any one?

Thanks,
Nick

Do you have DOS muting set up on your channels in use? If so what are the timings? Are you using PRE ID? Exactly how much of the conversation are you losing? Are we talking m-sec or are we talking seconds? What is probably happening, w/o seeing your codeplug & install, is that the channels are set up w/ standard DOS Mute settings which are (as they are supposed to) truncating the audio path until the timer runs out, and THEN passing the audio to the RICK.

Set up another channel which you will ONLY use during x-band usage w/o any DOS muting in the MDC system pages, on both radios. Try using this channel instead of the standard ones you are using now. The DOS Mute saves your ears by not allowing the MDC burst to be audible, but this might be what is causing your trouble, as it is also not passing the audio to the RICK.

just guessing here.

..sigh..
