Anyone know the internal cell type of a saber battery? Is it AA style cells? I want to pick up a couple dead saber batteries to tear apart and build up a couple single use batteries out of Energizer lithium cells. I'd like to have a battery I can put away with shelf life of 10+ years and not worry about it discharging or having to maintain it.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

Here are some pics I took from when I opened up a dead pack:ssybert wrote:Anyone know the internal cell type of a saber battery? Is it AA style cells? Your best bet would probably be to try and find a purpose-built AA battery pack, (if anyone made one that is.)
Re: Internal cell type of saber battery?
The cells look like 123 batteries so it's not going to be cost effective for me to try and outfit it myself. thanks for the photos!
I did a little more digging and came up with a Multiplier battery PN: M4595-LP. It's a non-rechargeable Lithium pack with a 10yr shelf life and will work down to -40c. It's 9V instead of the standard 7.2 and is a whopping 4200mah. So far I've found it available for $68.00. I'll keep looking for a better price but I'm probably going to go this route. A 10year maintainence free battery for $68 is cheap insurance.
Thanks for the help with the internals of the pack.

Here's the one I use. It never seems to die and it's rechargeable.

And don't let that photo on Cutrate's website fool you. The actual height
of the battery is exactly 2.0 inches.

I bought one of the Cutrate batteries. Tom is right, 2 inches high. Great battery, left the radio in the truck for about 2 weeks. Poped in Impress charger and had red light for about 5 minutes. It was still full charge.

I think I need to start saving for a couple. On a side note, will the standard gang-charger charge the Li-Ion safely?jban wrote:I bought one of the Cutrate batteries. Tom is right, 2 inches high. No, you would need a Tri Chem charger or an Impress charger. GARY N4KVETony.RI wrote:I think I need to start saving for a couple.
