Reaching out for some way above my head help here. I've got a 3k, 800 mhz, very basic flash as it stands, 100004-000000-4, basically just a Smartnet radio. Sadly, 3 of the 4 currently smartnet systems that my service currently works with are either actively swapping talkgroups onto their new shiny 9600 baud SZ systems or testing are at least in the testing phases with their systems to begin the process. I've looked at purchasing a new radio, but I really like my 3k! I've contacted various MSS's and been given wildly different quotes to flash the radio to the specs that I need (just basic 9600 baud digital trunking, nothing fancy). I've read up on flashing / whoreflashing pros and cons, and am pretty sure that my firmware and DSP are relatively recent, F/W is R07.71.07, DSP 08.03.05, so I'm hoping to avoid a trip to the depot (not worried about it, radio is legit, tags match info read from radio, just wanna save the $$$ if posssible). Have a licensed copy of CPS 12.01.00, but am familiar that isn't exactly the level of software that I need.
The few 5k's that we've purchased so far have the following flashcode / options:

Q806/G806 IMBE / APCO-25 Digital Operation
H14/G114 Digital ID Display
H38/G51 Smartzone Operation
Q173/G173 Smartzone OmniLink Operation

I basically need to get my 3k to mirror these options (as closely as is possible at least). What is the easiest way to go about this?

First, your CPS that is R12.xx is most likely for Astro25 radios such as the 5000's you mentioned. Thats a no go for the 3000. You will need the Astro CPS, I think R05.03.xx is current.
Second, simply whore-flashing your radio with a 9600 record is not an option. 9600 P25 trunking requires a different version of firmware then is in your radio with the flash/FW you listed. If you force a 9600 capable record in the radio, it wont know what to do with it. If you order the upgrade from Moto, then the disks they send you have the proper firmware on them and it will be loaded on the radio when the flash upgrade is done.
To get the 3K to match the 5K plug and actually work correctly will cost you $$$$. You will have to pay list price for IMBE, Smartzone, Omni-link and 9600 Trunking...then buy the software to program the 3k if you don't have it already. It will most likely go over a grand.
Best option from where I sit, Sell the 3K and buy a 5K.
