Astro Spectra Consolette Tone Control

Post by WB4JGI »

I'm in need of the instructions on how to install a C200 Advanced Tone Deskset into Astro Spectra Consolette using 2 wire control. I thought it was the same as a old DeskTrac by using the 8 pin RJ45 jack on the back of the Consolette, but that didn't work. So now I'm thinking it could be one of the DB-25's on this radio but I'm not sure which one. If anyone could point me to a pinout or something that would be great.

Thanks,
Stu

Most people use the accessory #2 DB25 connector on the back for control purposes.

Try pin 1 for line 1 plus (2wire)
Try pin 16 for line 1 negative (2 wire)

If your using a 4 wire control, then you will also need pin 3 for line 2 plus (TX)
and pin 11 for line 2 negative (TX)

You can control the radio direct from the same DB25 connector with PTT and mic audio.
The only I gotcha is that you may need to make some changes on the control board of the
radio to make it work. These are surface mount zero ohm jumpers that are on both sides
of the board. Unless you need direct control, I wouldn't go there.

I was able to try pins 1 and 16. The remote would receive audio but I could not get the radio to key up or change channels from the Tone Remote. It looked like on the sinadder that the Consolette was loading down the line when I would try and key up with the Remote, because the audio levels were really low, according to the meter. And the Remote was tuned about a month ago for proper tone levels. I have the 600ohm termination turned on so I'm not sure if that's why it wouldn't work or not. I'm using 1 C200 Advanced Tone Remote with this setup.

Turns out I had put it into the wrong accessory connector. Thanks, Jim for the pinout.

For some reason, Accessory Connector # 2 is the lower DB25, while Accessory Connector #3 is the upper one; just the opposite of what one might expect. There is an embossed legend on the plastic backplane of the Consolette, but it can be hard to see for lack of contrast.
