Advanced system key for saf t

Post by efc »

Hello

The state of Indiana has a type II Motorola Smartzone system. We cannot or any other entity obtain the 1. System key or 2. be
able to program new radios xts 2500 and 5000 unless we get the advance system key training. Any input as to thr "training" would
be helpful..... like Motorola online or whatever.

Thanks
John

Most system managers don't like anyone but trained radio techs playing with any radios on their
system. This sounds like a normal radio system manager. With what your asking about being
a state system, it surprises me that you even got that for an answer. A poorly programmed
radio can mess up a trunking system in short order. Plus unless good records are kept on
the radio ID and who has it, the radio system manager looses control of his system real fast.

Why not just ask the System Administrators what specifically they require? Is it a Motorola Course number or certification? Sounds like the training is their requirement --- I surely would not ask random people on the internet for suggestions and hope that's good enough.

Hello

Thank you for the input. This system is new to us and I wanted to do everything right and according to the law, so what a better place to ask.

Thank you

As far as I know there is no Advanced System Key class/training from Motorola. Sounds like a bunch a horse pucky the sys admin is giving ya. As of late last year, Safe-T was using a system key, not an Advanced System Key.

We were able to get a safe-t sys key last fall without any major problems. There was a crap ton of legal paper work we needed to sign.

If a radio on the Safe-T system is not programmed properly OR has a non fatal boot-up error (09/10), the system will inhibit the radio faster than you can blink.

Well of course, you turn the internet! Not the owner or manager of the system who would know it better than anyone else; no no, instead, put your trust in a bunch of strangers!

The funniest part of all this is the state will give system keys to the end users on this system, but they will NOT give one to the MSS that sells the radio to the end user. The radios must be read and sent to Motorola Indianapolis to get the trunking info entered, then sent back the the mss to program. But a customer who has no idea how to program a radio can get one...

Sorry had to rant on this one.

I'm not aware of any training, but I do know customers on this system have gotten a system key to program there own radios. However you still need someone who can set up all the info correctly. And that means knowing how a smartzone system works, to some extent.

Motorola offers a class for this, it's called Radio Programming & Templet Building, It will cost you $850.00 and it's an on line course.
