I have read on a few posts about interfacing a single MC3000 to a XTL5000 via a Cat5 and DB-25. Would anyone be able to shed some light on this.
I allready have one station with the XTL5000 consolette and Digital junction box with 6 MC3000's (1 spare also)
In one of the other stations the is being overhauled we just have a Moble XTL5000 with W9 head, I was planning to just run the mic and ptt lines to the other side of the station as was the case with the older maxtrac that was removed. I was looking into posibly getting a dual control head setup for the XTL this way i could have one control head in the radio room and one in the day room. But the longest motorola control head cable is 150'. I am sure that the distance that the cable would have to run, due to going over the bay for the trucks, is going to be at least 200' I was looking into the idea of possible using the spare MC3000 in-place of the 2nd control head, but am unsure if i would need the Digital Junction box just for 1 deskset. I other words use the w9 head on the Main control head connector and the MC3000 on the 2nd conector.
Would any one know the pinout of the RJ45 on the MC3000?
Possibly if the signals on there are present on the 2nd XTL connector also, i may be able to do some testing on this idea. I'm trying not to have to spend a bunch of $$ just to get one remote setup. Any help from the masters would be greatly appreciated.

Hey brother, I'm no master but I may be able to help you out. Have you thought about installing a TRC board in your consolette? You'd be able to run two wire tone remoting directly into your radio via pins 1 and 16 on the bottom accesory (DB25) connector on the back of the chassis with no external interface needed. In fact, you could run all your MC3000s into one radio by setting the impedence to 600 ohms on one MC3000 and 10k ohms on all the others with no external interface box by paralleling the remotes. Changing the channel on any one remote would still update the channel change to all the other remotes. You'd wire the two center pins from the MC3000 RJ45 jack and the other end to a male DB25 connector plugged into the radio. I've got the part numbers for the TRC boards at work somewhere if you need them, I don't remember them being that expensive (reletively speaking of couse). Here's an earlier thread with some more info on the TRCs and jumper settings.

I use a lot of MC2000s, and the above is based on my assumption (I'm pretty sure that I remember this right) that the MC3000 was the follow on "advanced desk set" and is in fact a tone remote device. Hope this helps.

Re: Interface MC3000 to XTL5000 Moble ???
Thank you for your reply, I'll look into this. I'm not actually using a Consolette at the station that this will be implimented at, It is just a moble XTL with a W9 head setup the same as all the trucks. I do however have the schematics and manuals for the MC3000 set so I'll be looking into how it all works. The local moto shop here said that It may be possible to do a Dual W9 head smilar to the front / Rear head setup on the spectra, That is providing the Options and Firmware support it. It just takes them forever to answer the simpilest questions. I get faster and better answer's asking on the Batboard.

Nope, not a tone remote at all. The MC3000 is a 'digital remote', which essentially acts as an extended control head, giving access to all programmed control head button functions, etc. I believe you're thinking of the MC2500, which is a 4-line version of the MC2000.sethcwilliams wrote: I use a lot of MC2000s, and the above is based on my assumption (I'm pretty sure that I remember this right) that the MC3000 was the follow on "advanced desk set" and is in fact a tone remote device. No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.
