I want to use a left over Spectra that i'm not using for my online feed i currently provide on Scanamerica.us and over at Scannewengland. I'm using a scanner for the feed now but I want to use that mobile I have laying around because the RX and audio are day and night. However when I RX audio it seems to trip something in my computer and causes the sound card to stop working. I then unplug it and plug it back in and it works for a second and then same thing. This doesn't happen with audio comes from the scanner.
I had a radio tech tell me there may be some DC voltage coming from the radios speaker feed and that I need to add an audio transformer. Can anybody elaborate on this?
Thanks!

Re: Help using Spectra for Feed
One major point to know on most of the Motorola radios is that the speaker output has a DC bias voltage
on both wires. They are floating above ground and should never be grounded. You will blow the audio
output stage in the radio.
A better way would be to use the fixed audio output line which is available on the accessory connector.
This too has a DC bias on it and should be coupled wit5h a capacitor to what ever your going to
connect it to. Use something like a 1.0 mf cap. The fixed audio should be on pin 11.
The fixed audio line is not level controlled by the radio volume control like the speaker wires.
Hope this helps.

The low level audio on pin 11 is not filtered or squelched.
There us another filtered and squelched audio output in the Spectra but not available on the rear connector. PM for more details.

Re: Help using Spectra for Feed
I remember at one time, by moving some jumpers on the command board, filtered and squelched audio would be available at the rear acc connector. It is not stated in the service manual as say a maxtrac, you'll have to noodle over the schematic to find the correct jumpers. The low level audio on pin 11 is not filtered or squelched.
Lots and lots of watts...

Why don't you post the details here in the forum so that everyone can benefit? Or are you trying to drum up a bit of business? Will wrote:There us another filtered and squelched audio output in the Spectra but not available on the rear connector. PM for more details.

Re: Help using Spectra for Feed
Looking at schematic for HLN6094B command board, removing JU-9730 and installing JU-507 will ship filtered audio to rear acc connector pin 11. There is no coupling cap from U-401 on out so one might be in order. I'm thinking 10uF would work.
Any line level input should welcome this with open arms...
