Am I right in the belief that I require a system key to even program this radio to monitor a trunked system?

If so I'm upset that I wont be able to listen to my local systems unless I use a trunktracker.

If anyone has details to help me, please reply or private message me.

Thanks alot.

Wellll, you can use lab to program the radio without using a system key

OR

you can program a bogus system key (0001 or whatever keys you happen to have, if any) with valid control channels and talkgroups. Then create a scan list of the "Talkgroup" type, program the talkgroups into your scan list and include a dummy conventional channel in the list as well. As the radio scans through the list, it will unmute on active conversations on the programmed TG's. If the radio detects one of the control channels are active it will assume that the system key you entered is the same as that system until the system sends out a SysID message. The trick here is that hopefully that message gets missed while it is scanning the conventional channel. Pretty slick!

If you do it that way, you also have the ability to transmit, at least until the SysID is sent out so be careful!
