Anyone seen this...
CVT-2-900 Ver 2.14 Scholer-Johnson Inc. On the FW chip.
Was in a standard maxtrac, but when I went to blank and initialize the radio as a conv unit, I could not read or blank the radio with this FW chip in it. Also, the radio made sounds I have never heard come from a maxtrac when powered up. Sounded more like a video slot machine! I ended up installing the CONV FW chip, then blanking the radio, and still got a long "HOOOOONK" when the radio powered up and a lot of checksum error warnings in the RSS when read. I blanked the board again and reinitialized again exactly the same, and all seems OK now as a standard 16ch conv radio.
Just curious!

I have seen a lot of SJ Maxtracs. They are LTR units.

Re: Strange Maxtrac Firmware
I can blank these...it requires doing so while the SJI chip is installed and using their software and some secret-squirrel work. Then you pull the SJI chip and put a normal Motorola firmware in its place and re-initialize. I am surprised you got yours working...
Look, it's not in my nature to be mysterious. But I can't talk about it and I can't talk about why.

Re: Strange Maxtrac Firmware
You can try blanking with Maxlab by re-installing a conventional or even trunked Maxtrac e-prom. It appears that most of the radios operating system in on that e-prom. It will make all kinds of weird noises, but I have done it.
WOW I just realized that this post is nearly 18 months old. I guess 900 mhz modifications is not a hot topic. LOL
