I'm learning my way around the Spectra radio, or should I say, RE-learning it. There's a lot I've forgotten, and a lot more that frankly I never knew
as my last time with a Spectra of my own was fairly brief as it had capacitor plague and didn't last long.
This time around I've got another VHF high power unit that I've already converted over from working with an A4 head to an A7 head. So I have some
useful tools available to me.
The unit is encryption capable, as its's a T83GXA series radio. But, I don't think it has an encryption module installed in it.
Forgive me for not knowing this one little trivial thing, but can anyone post a picture of a typical Spectra encryption module? I honestly don't know
what it even looks like. I've got access to a good pile of boards taken from retired Spectras, and I'd put in a DES-XL encryption module if I knew what
to look for and one's available. (Part numbers wouldn't be bad, either, but I can probably find those if I search long enough.) My attempts to find a
picture of a Spectra encryption module via searching the net were not successful.
In all my years I've never actually seen one of those. I can recognize plenty of other encryption modules but it just works out that I've had very little
direct experience with Spectras with their covers off.

If you look right at the top of this very forum, you'll see a handily stickied post entitled "Batdude's Encryption Article & SECURENET Parts List" which has within it mirrored links to the original documents, including a PDF with some very nice discussion and pictures at the end...Elroy Jetson wrote:My attempts to find a picture of a Spectra encryption module via searching the net were not successful.

Very good. Thank you for pointing that out. I'd missed the specific document I needed to look at, the first time I looked at those articles.
