Site Trunking

Post by batt25 »

Is there a way to have a Gold Elite console that is connected to a Smart zone system indicate to the dispatcher when the system goes into Site Trunking? We were a Smart net system and then became a site on the County's Smart zone system. It's a 3.0 system.

What radios do you own?: APX,XTS2500,XTL2500,XTL1500

Gold Elite consoles are disconnected during site trunking and Red X's are displayed in the icon's.
At that point they usually would have to revert to a local control station or handheld radio.

Our consoles are on the County backbone so when we loose only one of the T1s connecting our site to the Master Site, the consoles stay up but the subscribers(some of them) fall to site trunking and the dispatcher has no clue anything is happening. Just looking for a way to notify the dispatch on the console that the system is having a problem.

Install an XTL control station radio at the dispatcher supervisors console with no microphone.

This radio should be on a talkgroup that only this radio has(no other radios allowed on this talkgroup).

When the SZ system goes into either site trunking or failsoft the display and beeps will indicate to the
supervisor what is happening and he/she can inform all of the other dispatchers and follow whatever
procedure they have in place for just such an incident.

This assumes there is a tower site close enough for this control station to hear the active control
channel.

FireShot
Thanks, we have a portable doing that now but was looking for a way for it to show up on the consoles themselves. Maybe it can't be done.

There is a way to do this using control stations tied to the auxio. Motorola has a special codeplug they use for this application. One will do site trunking indication, and the other will do failsoft indication(two radios needed). We use this on an MCC7500 system, it should be able to be adapted to the Gold Elite. The Guys at 7.x should be able to talk you through this.

This auxio method works well, but requires a bit of hardware besides the radio.

Talk to your engineer, they should be able to reach out and get the documentation on this.
