Greetings all,
First off nice site, glad I stumbled across this. I did a few searches for the information i need but came up empty.
I have 60 XTS 5000 M2 LMRs with me, 18 of which are malfunctioning. These are new radios and have not been mistreated yet, we have had them for about a year but 90% of them have never been touched. Anyways the 18 malfunctioning are running on the same Codeplug I have programmed on the other 42. The radios work for a few days then they enter a TX lock like state. No error is read just suddenly when you key up the TX red light turns on, nothing TX's over the net and when you release the PTT the red TX light stays on for approx 15- 20 secs.
I have read the code plug and reviewed it for any errors. Re-written the codeplug to the borken radios mulitiple times. Rekeyed them, adjust the TX timeouts etc etc. I wopuld think it was a programming error to happen on 18 radios but like I said they work fine for a few days then they get this TX inhibit state, plus it is the same codeplug used on all our other radios. I am not sure what all information readers would need to troubleshoot this so if there is any particular settings you need from the codeplug just let me know and I will post it.
Thanks

You say you have had them for at least a year, what firmware revision do they have?

Re: Motorola XTS 5000 M2 Locked in TX
Honestly, I wouldn't put those radios in the field without catching up on firmware. They are almost 13 revisions behind, and there are way too many fixes in those to list here. Some of those fixes are covered by SRNs that will get you the updates for free, or if you don't mind paying $75 per radio you can go that route. I have not seen the problem you describe, but since you say these are not abused radios I would upgdate before seeking repairs.

Re: Motorola XTS 5000 M2 Locked in TX
I figured out the issue with these 18 radios, actually Motorola figured it out. Turns out that the TX lock that was happening was a symptom of Fail 09/90 which is a Fatal Error in the Secure Module.
So 18 radios had their security module break on them. It seemed odd, like a bad batch went out. We dont have any replacement boards so back to Motorola they go. Thanks for the advice.

Re: Motorola XTS 5000 M2 Locked in TX
There is an old Service bulletin for R8.01.03 pertaining to CTCSS squelch problems so I wouldn't be surprised if there were tx problems also.
