Spectra Issues

I have searched hi and low for answers on this but I am at my end.

I am a basic Motorola user and a ham. This is what I have...

T83GXA7HA9AK Spectra Remote Mount VHF 146-174

Connected into that is this system. The Astro Spectra Box is connected to the S9000 Box via a DB-25 T and both are connected to the second DB-25 port on the Spectra. The Spectra along with the 1185B/E Boxes are all connected to a Vectronics VEC-106 8 plug Positive/Neutral wiring strip with a 15A fuse which is connected to the Alternator with a kit from Kragen with a 30A fuse on there. I have a Whelen SA315P connected via standard speaker wire to the System 9000 box. I get zero audio out of the speaker either on PA or Siren/Yelp/etc modes. Yes Siren/PA is enabled in RSS. Everything runs fine except the Siren/PA option. Here is my setup.

HCN1073D - Control Head
HLN1241D - DEK Head
^^Connected to the Spectra with a HKN4356B Cable^^


HLN1185B - System 9000 Box
HLN1185E - Astro Spectra Box
^^Connected to the Spectra with a HKN4363?(Last digit is worn away)^^

Any help would be greatly apprecicated in figuring this out!

Are you trying to connect two siren amps to a single radio?

I am evidently missing something here, but I make no claims of being an expert on this issue. What I can't figure out is why you would have two 1185 boxes connected? Stereo sirens? The standard setup would be radio connected to an 1185 box via the option DB series connector on the radio.

Next...what are you using the DEK box for? Lights? The A9 head has keys for siren operation already.

Using the alternator for main high current power feed point is a bad idea. You want the battery or an accessory power stud connected to the battery + as close to it as possible.

I was always told you needed both of them. the DEK has more Siren option buttons plus my lights connected in as well.

As far as the alternator goes there is a Battery Box of some sort from Kragen Auto that a car savvy friend said would be a good idea to have so that I wouldn't burn up my car. Originally I had it wired from the battery with a 30A fuse.

I havethe same setup...
First, disconnect one of the 1185s, you only need one. If there is an RF connector on one it has the VRS, use that one if you want a vehicle extender. Otherwise, the 1185B is fine, the E series may be for an Astro. Use only the cable with power leads and speaker wires on it, the other is probably for the VRS only box or something else.
Make sure the speaker is good - you know how to test a speaker, right???

True, the DEK has a few more options for the Siren/PA system.

All Electrical Power Supply connections must be to the battery via fuses at the battery. Hooking to your alternator will result in too much whine. The battery helps filter the alt noise out and buffer voltage spikes.

I don't see any RF connectors on either. I'll use the 1185B. Both have power and speaker wires on it.

Speaker is brand new. I'm not directly hooked to the alternator but have a box and toggle switch between the alternator and the VEC-106.

If you want to PM to help more that would be appreciated. I am gone to Reno, NV for my 21st birthday (June 19th) and I'll be back to my car early sunday morning.
