RSS not fully reading

Post by fchrist16 »

Hey all,

My UHF Spectra radio will read all the codeplugs and then sit at 100% and all the RSS says is Please wait.

Any ideas?

Just an update. I got the radio to read but need to put a new C/P into it and RSS is coming back with Error Number 16 Software Versions do not match.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Find a codeplug with a matching software version? Also, getting a clue prior to haxx0ring radios would be recommended. Labtools don't have seatbelts and airbags...

The only comments that I would add is to do your programming in a pure DOS mode. Don't try to cheat and run
the RSS under Windows in a Dos command box. Don't use a fast computer. Something under 500 MHz clock
or slower should be rock stable. If your trying to push a faster computer, good luck. Don't use a USB to serial
converter for your programming port. Sure there are people who have got away with it, but they are lucky.
Most of the USB to serial converters on the market don't play well with the Motorola RSS.

Make sure you have a fresh battery in the RIB if it doesn't run off of a wall wart. There are many off market
RIB units for sale. Some work well and others don't.

Lab software is not the answer to solve problems. If the radio is having problems with a codeplug, you need to
fix the codeplug issues and not try to jam changes that it doesn't like into a radio. It may be a simple fix like
you fat fingered a frequency and the radio doesn't like it. I find myself doing that all the time. That's why it
is a good habit to go back and double check what you think you just changed in the radio.

Jim,

Under 200Mhz good enough on a pure DOS-Box. :)

it looks like it was a lack of power going into the radio.

Under 200 mHz means about 60 mHz to be safe. 200 mHz is 'way too high to take a chance.

At one time there was a ton of data on this Board about the subject but the advent of CPS
has pushed most of it into the background, but all the info is still there and it applies today
just the same as it did ten years ago.

You mean you have to have power to the radio to read it? Shocking.

I had power to it but just not quite enough. The control head was on and functional and i was able to tx/rx on my local repeater just fine before I tried programming new frequencies in.
