I have a HT1250 VHF 136-174 split radio. I have the radio programmed for public safety(fire) and ham radio. When there is 1/2 battery on the battery display, the radio will only TX for less than 1 second and drop on high power. Low power is fine. I can TX on high power with my hand holding the antenna, but you know that drops the RF radiated power. This does this with all my batteries 2 moto and 1 aftermarket. Firmware is ver1. What could be the problem with the radio? We had the same radio at work but new out of box in 2006 and it did not do that on those. Does anyone have an idea? I cannot update the firmware due to the cost. The local moto shop quoted 75.00-150.00 for firmware update. If thats the case I might just look for a newer radio with updated firmware already in the radio.
Thanks so much for you help,
Mike

I think you just figured out part of your problem...

Stupidity creates job security!
If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..
CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Re: HT1250 TX problem
firmware may be your issue and that's very expensive, firmawre upgrade in those radios is usually between $40 and $50. and how do you know it's going to low power? is the display changing from H to L?

I place the radio in low power via front button 1
Re: HT1250 TX problem
The safe bet would be to two step the firmware update from v1 to something above 2 and then all the way to the most current version, but since the newest CPS came out, I am not sure you would have to do that anymore as the CPS does such a nice job of recovery.
In the shop where I work, that's a minimum programming charge, since the software and firmware is available on MOL and an upgrade is not required to be purchased outside of the software subscription. Where we are, that's $45.
You WOULD need to have your own copy of the newest software when we got down, however...
