xts5000 Dead- sudden power drop or wipe

Post by abrasowski »

(tried a search but got a SQL syntax ERROR [ mysql4 ])

Have an XTS5000 which just today quit on me: basically, the radio can transmit simplex frequencies if you access them through a "talkaround/repeat" button but not if you program them in the radio as a simplex channel...? odd.

Here's the story. Radio was working absolutely fine this morning. Later in the day had to swap with someone my good battery for their completely dead battery. Put it on the my 5000 and it was indeed dead. When I get back to the main building, I swap batteries with a fresh one. Turn the radio on, play with the front menu options (BATT, PWR, SCAN, ETC.) just messing back and forth with options, and then attempt to transmit on our repeater frequency AND- nothing! completely dead wont accesss the repeater at all. Checked all programming and it is correct. No options have changed in the CPS!

...Does this sound familiar to anybody or remind anybody of an XTS5000 failure. Reading through the story, so you think it had anything to do with the dead battery? or with changing the simple menu options (like High/Low PWR, button TONES, etc.???) I'm completely baffled.

Radio is a XTS5000 uhf high split last programmed with cps rev 12
dont have the host info or serial at this time have to look at the radio later.

DO you have a previously saved copy of the codeplug, if so try writing that back into it. Maybe the low battery condition caused corruption of the codeplug when changing an option. Also check and see if it has firmware 11.00.00, that is prone to corrupting its own codeplug fatally. Maybe you just got lucky.

Hi,

How long did the radio have the "dead" battery on it? I seem to recall several years ago that there was a feature that could be progarammed into the 5000 so that if the battery was removed or was dead for certain period of time, it would only function insimplex. Might be wrong, but it is my 2 cents worth :P
