CPS9 and CPS12 - Can They Coexist?

Post by rc50won »

I am pretty sure I know the answer to this, but stranger things have happened so I must ask.

Can an XP-Pro system support both CPS 9 and CPS 12 at the same time?

Let the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune fly!

One reason he'd want both 9 and 12 is because one of his radios is
flashed for Q52 and not Q53.

By design, no, you cannot install a later version of Astro 25 CPS & leave the older version untouched. However, I know there was a post from about 3 years ago which described exactly how to do it...I believe it involved some registry editing. Anyway, it's been asked several times since & I've mentioned the post in the hopes someone can either find it (I've searched with no luck) or re=post the info. It CAN be done...

In this case it would be adding Cps9 to a system that has Cps12 installed. M

Start by installing the older or earlier version of Astro25 CPS that you want to use. Example, if you want to run R09 and R12 on the same machine > install R09 first.

Now with R09 installed, create a new folder in a location of your choice on the computer.

Now, go to my computer>C:\Program Files\Motorola\ASTRO 25 Products\ASTRO 25 Portable CPS.

Now, copy all the files you see in the Astro25 Portable CPS folder and paste them into the new folder you created earlier.

Now go to my computer> C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motorola\RDK. You should see a folder that has a name that starts with ADK7_2_SP04_SR7. Open it, copy all the .dll’s and other files you see in there and paste them into that new folder along with the other CPS files you pasted in there earlier.

Now, install your version 12 CPS and let it upgrade the installed version on the computer. After it’s done, you now have version 12 on the computer. Go back into that folder you created, and you should have a file in there named patport with the same icon as your desktop icon for the program. Double click that icon in the folder, and version 9.xx.xx will run. Make a shortcut on your desktop for R09 and your in business..

Enjoy!

Stupidity creates job security!

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.
