i am trying to hook up a tiny tracker 3 to a maxtrac(5pic) thru the mike connector the transmit audio seems very low any idea

also any way to turn up the volumn on the mike jack audio

Audio from the mic connector is fixed level = from the volume control top because it's only designed to feed a handset earpiece. Also, mic connector is bandpass filtered to 300-3000 Hz, so if you're trying to get anything near a square wave(data) through it I'd expect it to be low in level compared with voice. Place to go is ahead of the low and highpass filtering(raw detector/discriminator) output.

The TT 3 can use any audio for RX because it just looks for any carrier or data, it does not decode, it just uses RX audio or carrier to determine when to delay transmit until the channel is not busy.
So, the hand set audio out or speaker audio should work.
Set the level with the TT3 pot to light the RX LED on any signal that opens the squelch.
As for the TX audio, it really works best to get into the radio and find the point on the LOGIC board that is silk screened as TXA.
That is the DATA audio IN location.
Next to the TXA pad you will see where there is a missing "surface mount resistor" that is R704.
Either connect your TX audio to the TXA pad and put a wire jumper where R704 would go, or just hook to the R704 pad that has a trace that goes to the TX audio IC's.
Depending on which logic board you have the location of the TXA point and other parts will be physically different but they work the same.
If you do some searching you should be able to find some pretty good "pictorials" or photos of the logic boards.
The same point is used for packet, APRS and even the "P25 repeater from Maxtracs" articles.
Do some searching and you should find it.
Probably easier that finding someone with the manual of schematics.

i wish i had the 16 pin models. but these are free (upgrading the radios to so narrow band)and i figured this will be a good use for them. they are for emergency management and we have a ham ticket k1mtn so i am figure this would be a good use them

i hooked the TT3 up to a ht600 it works great just need more power

Bear in mind that the mic connector has a fixed bias to make the normal mic work. If your making your connection
to the mic connector and not using a DC blocking capacitor, you are probably shorting the mic bias voltage to
ground. Hence the coupling capacitor. The value of is should probably be at least a 1.0 uf or larger. Some
might even say a 10 uf cap would be better. You might just have to experiment to find the value that works
best for you. If it is a polarized cap, put the + side towards the mic jack.

You will also have to control the level of audio going into the radio. You don't want to drive the Maxtrac TX
audio into compression. You will need nice clean audio. May be run it at the 3.0 to 3.5 KHz max deviation
for a normal wide band channel. Anything above that will cause you to go into compression and distort the
audio on the transmitter. This is even more important if you are running through a repeater.
