Specrta High Power Control Head Problems

Post by KB2EVZ »

Hello, KB2EVZ here. The name is Mike.

I just purchased a 110 watt VHF Spectra Model # T83FWA7HA9AK from a seller on e-bay. The radio seems top work fine, however it came with a HCN1073A Systems 9000, A9 Control head. Also labeled Kit SP03 with a HLN6284A Board. This head seems to list as a Non-9000E compatible SYNTOR head.

On power-up I got a 08/10 Siren/PA option, easily fixed. Next up a 41/10 and the Fail 01/90 Serial Bus Error. After reading the code plug I got “Unrecognized data in control head” and “Bad Control Head Checksum” indicating that if the MLM isn’t damaged or the Code Plug isn’t corrupted then the radio has the Wrong Control Head. Also the A9 head was BLANK at the time I saved the plug with my version 6 RSS.

Finally I configured the top upper left three buttons, laid out as Aux, MPL and Scan to function as Sel, Home and Scan. That’s all I could do with the head. The display works fine but all other buttons are dead, and the mode and Volume won’t work either.

Does anyone think it could be a Non-9000E compatibility issue, or something worse? I am also looking for a Code Plug from a 110 watt VHF Spectra, Model# T83FWA7HA9AK, 146-174 mhz. with an A9 Control Head. NOT RSS just a code plug. A point in the right would be much appreciated.

Thanks…[email protected]
