MCS2K upgrading

Post by LED138 »

Hi everyone,

I have a MCS2k that I need to update some frequencies and other options on. The problem I have is that I cant figure out what version of the software its running in it. Granted I dont have the RIB or CPS/RSS, but some of the local shops wont touch it because it may be an older version. The radio was installed in my Engine in late 2001. It has never been upgraded. I need to have both my UHF and VHF updated. Do I have to send them back to /\/\ to have them flash it? Or is my radio vendor trying to blow smoke up my butt because he doesnt want to do it.

If you just want to change some frequencies and tones any shop worth its name should be willing to do the job for you. But when you mention reflashing you're in another world and you may be considering doing/adding something that the old radio can be made to do. If you feel like posting some more details of what you need to get done it might be helpful.

In any event, I would say that a serious sit-down discussion with the service manager of the best shop you can find would be in order. If it helps, have your purchasing/procurement manager call and put the blocks to them.
