Sytem Saber service mode??

Post by bitterman1970 »

Hi all,
Firstly, very informative site. I've learned a lot of info here!!

Just a quick question. How do I put a Sytem Saber unit into service mode?

Cheers,

What radios do you own?: XTS5000R, Astro Saber III, I

Should be the same as the regualer Sabers (within 5-10 seconds of turning the radio on, push the ".." button on the side of the radio (below the PTT) 5 times, and that will put the radio in Service mode (displaying the Model number, etc.). This is providing that your Sys. Saber is a Model II or III with a display :)
Hope that helps.

??? I have a Saber II, and pushing the RAT2 ("..") button five times after power up does nothing. Button could be bad, I don't use it, so I don't know. Either way, thats not how the Systems Saber is put in service mode. Hold all three orange buttons down while powering up. It should come up first with a screen showing the CORE, COPE, and another parameter, but I don't know what the other parameter is. It should be in a format like "06 01 --". The dashes are the "unknown" parameter (that's what my VHF Systems Saber III shows). That screen should hold for app. four seconds, then the radio should beep and the display should change to "LCD TEST". Pressing the mode button steps the display through all segments it can show. Pressing the home button changes the display to "KEY TEST". Pressing any button, except the light or home button, will show the name of the button pressed on the display. For example, pressing the "5" button will display "KEY 5" on the display; pressing the "#" button will display "POUND" on the display; pressing the "mode" button will display "MODE KEY" on the display. Turning the channel knob will show "CHAN 1", "CHAN 2", and so on. Pressing the light button simply turns the light on, and pressing the home button toggles back to "LCD TEST". As far as I know, thats all that service mode does.

BTW, Mike, there is no Systems Saber II, only a I and a III.

Sorry, for that bad bit of info., I really have to start getting back to a full 8 hours sleep lol. I was thinking of the Astro saber. I totally forgot about the saber and the three red/orange buttons. Haven't played with a regular saber in quite a few years. Thanks for clearing that up for me kf4sqb :)

The last two dashes (placeholder) indicate the type of secure module installed, with dashes indicating none.
