MT2000 PTT

Post by gdsteele »

I have an MT2000 that the PTT doesn't move very much when you press it. Sometime it's hard to tell that it's pressed except for the LED on top of the radio. I'd like to get a better tactile feedback from the switch. Is there a way to adjust it?

Hello. I've had this happen quite a few times over the years. After you remove the black outer case of the radio, locate where the PTT would be. You will see a shiny silver round disc held on with scotch tape. Sometimes the silver disc moves off center from the contact. Peel off the tape & move it so the silver disc is centered so it has a better feel. Try to avoid touching the underside of the contact & tape as much as possible. This has worked for me. I have lots of Jedi's & the PTT feel varies on them all. Most are OK, but I have a few that feel really good. I only move the contact for the really bad ones as I don't like to open these up unless really necessary. I don't know if it's an official fix or not, but it does fix the bad PTT. GARY N4KVE

Can you give me some tips on how to remove the shiny black radio case? There must be a secret way, there are no screws...

The silver 'dot' that is held on by tape is centered pretty well. It give a nice 'click' when it's pressed. The green piece that comes from the ptt button doesn't seem to move much or have much of a spring to it.
