A9 Spectra Programming Help

Hello Fellow Batlabers,

Sorry if this is a repeated question (i have already searched it), i'm having programming problems with an A9 spectra dual head setup. This is my first time programming a spectra never mind the dual head. I plug the programming cable into the control unit and I can program the front radio only. However when I plug the programming cable in it takes power away from the rear head in order for me to program the front unit.

The front unit is programmed fine but i cant figure for the life of me how to get the same data into the rear radio.

Also on another front, when the radio turns on it automatically tx's the identifier by itself.

Ill try my best to answer any questions you have regarding the setup.

Ok, there are only two connectors on the remote mount. Plug your front control head into the one labeled "control head" and the programming cable into the other one. Then program the radio. It sounds like you did this already.

Now unplug your front control head from the "control head" connector on the remote mount, and connect your REAR one to the "control head" connector. Leave your programming cable connected to the radio.

When going to the GET/SAVE menu in RSS, don't press F8 to program the radio. I am not 100%, but I think F9 says "Program Rear head". Just look at the RSS for that option.

Let's start with a couple of questions.

1. Is this a low or medium powered unit with the dual DB25 plate on the front of
the radio?

2. If this is a low or medium power radio, are you providing ignition power to the
DB15 connector?

3. If you are using the rear DB15 accessory connector, is pin 2 shorted to pin 8?
this is the emergency alert pin. If this pin 2 is not grounded, it may be the cause
of your transmitter going into transmit as soon as it is turned on.

4. Which connector are you using to program the radio? The DB15 or the DB25
connector?

But doesn't it HAVE to be two DB25 connectors, since he says he has a dual head configuration? That is why I thought for sure it was the radio with two DB25 connectors. Unless you can daisy-chain two control heads to one DB25 connector, then wouldn't this be the case?

To the OP, what is your "ID NUMBER" (model number) on the Radio? Should be on the side of the remote mount.

Oh, and once you get this working, the Spectra is a GREAT radio!

You can have a trunk mount low or medium power radio with a double DB25 plate on it.
there are a pile of radios like that out there.

Yes you have to swap the heads around when your programming. Make sure you
select just the rear head when you get to that part.
