RIB USB Driver

Post by nyrescue »

Hello all, I just purchased a new laptop and well I went to update my scanner and when I plugged in the rib into my laptop it is asking for a USB-Serial Controller. After some research on the net I could not find anything of value. Any help?

Scanner? This is a Motorola Radio Forum.

Scanners don't use RIBs so not sure if you mean a scanner or an actual radio. What is the model of this scanner or radio that you are talking about?

From my knowledge, the RIB is designed to be hooked up to a true Serial Port on the computer. Even the XTS series use the RIB. I think the latest revision for the RIB box is "E", but I don't think it has USB support. I guess if you are using CPS, you could try a usb to serial adapter, but that just sounds like a brick waiting to happen.

If you are using RSS, then forget about USB.

But since you laptop is asking for that serial-usb control, it sounds like you may have a scanner (radio shack, GRE, uniden). If it is, install the supplied driver CD and don't let Windows use its generic driver, as it doesn't work. You have to use the one supplied.

We need more information on what radio (or scanner) you are trying to do this on. If this is a scanner question, then you should be asking this question on the radioreference forums.

Good Luck!
Radios I own: Spectra VHF 110W with A7 head, HT1000 VHF, ICOM IC-F30 VHF, and a Puxing PX-888 VHF.
Scanner I own: Radioshack Pro-164

If you want to get around the 16 mode scan limit on the Motorola Spectra, then read this guide and go to the original thread Here! 8)

USB RIB eh?

Consult the manufacturer... Motorola does not sell USB RIBs.
