Programming GM380

Hi,

I am compleatly new in this world, and i need a little help please.
I got a Motorola GM380, with this software R03.12.03.
and a Maxton cable, and PC software CPS R03.10.03

I have installed the program om my computer.
Turned on the radio, and connected the cable from the microphone port to the COM1 port.
Then i press read radio, and this error messege arrive, saying that i need to check the cable or turn on the radio.

Is it the right methode i have used, or have i forgotten something?
Do i need to do something with the radio, to make it communicate with the computer?

for starters the software version in the radio (if the data is correct) is newer than the version you are trying to program it with which will NOT work. secondly you have to make sure the cable you are using is RIBless cable. Rib is a small programming device that transfers data to Motorola radios from your computer.
