VHF Motorcycle Spectra no RX audio

Post by NewJerseyBill »

Hello all.

I have a VHF motorcycle spectra that has basically no rx audio. Upon applying 12 VDC, and turning on, if you press mode or volume, you get a momentary "key press" beep. Other than that, nothing. The momentary beep only occurs IF you remove power from the radio and reenergise it Anyone have any thoughts?

Did you "un-squelch" to see if you get noise?

Press and hold MOM button until radio beeps and displays SQL xx. Use the MODE down to bring the number down until you hear the noise and get the green BUSY LED. IF so check your programmed MODEs.

What radios do you own?: More than I can count

Make sure the radio isn't programmed for a secure board. The busy light will flash constantly but you will receive no audio. Or you could have a case of the dreaded leaking caps

No secure board installed and not programmed. I took a look at the caps again with a bright light and magnifying glass, and there is no indication of leakage.

I unsquelched the radio, green "busy" light comes on and no white noise audio. Just the one time blip upon pressing the first key after applying power to the radio, and turning it on.

Reprogram it and blank out an audio options. Also, make sure the radio isn't in code squelch through programming.

No mater what programming, there should still be the volume up / down tone, and button push tone, neither of which are there except for the first blip on putting power to the radio and turning on and pressing a button.

Still could be a bad audio output IC and or bad capacitors that caused leakage damage you can not see.
