Waris Question

Post by N4KVE »

Hello. I feel silly asking a question which I'm sure is pretty basic to lots of you guys, but I'm stumped. I'm pretty good with B7 Jedi's & AS3's but not the Waris radios. I do have a MTX 9250 on 900 MHZ & it's pretty nice. The 6 buttons below the screen seem to be the same as the 6 buttons on an AS3 below the screen. I'm thinking maybe I'd like to get a UHF HT1250 with full keypad, but the 6 buttons below the screen do different things. The lower 3 seem to be for 3 specifically programmed functions, where as the 9250 the 3 lower are for left arrow, home, & right arrow. I don't need trunking, just lots of conventional freq's in the 403-470 split & the 6 buttons below the screen to do the same as my 9250. Does such a radio exist in the Waris line? Thanks. GARY N4KVE

The 3 buttons below the screen are called Soft Keys. The methodology the HT 1250 uses is menus.

That's a function of the Waris MTX series radios firmware, and I've never seen that mode of operation on anything other than the MTX series radios.

The keypad escutcheon is different between the HT 1250 and the MTX 9250, which pretty much says things are the way they are. You can't enable soft key operation on an HT1250, and you can't enable menu-based operation on an MTX 9250.

On the HT1250, one of the front buttons is Select/Enter, the other is Menu, and you have some programmable buttons (P1, P2, P3) that also double as "LEFT, DOWN, RIGHT" and between Select/Enter and Menu is "UP".

Two different lines of thought on the two different radios, two different firmware layouts obviously done by two different teams. Nothing is interchangeable. Hell they both require different CPS!

Thanks. This answers my question. Too bad about that. No HT 1250 for me. GARY N4KVE
