I've been asked to program a type 2 trunking spectra.
Never programmed a trunking personality before.
Can someone tell me all the information I will need before I start.
It's a regular spectra T45ZXA5JC9AK
Thanks

You've been a member here long enough to know better than to ask that.
Talk to the system administrator, if he authorizes you to program it, he'll provide you all the information you need including the system key file.

Re: Need to program a trunking radio
Let's not be so quick to judge or read between the lines of the OP's request. He's been asked to program a trunked radio, so he's entitled to the assumption that the request is a legitimate one. That being the case, he will be given the system key for programming by the system administrator.
There is no harm and no foul in asking for the procedure to be followed in setting up a trunked radio. My personal small familiarity with the subject tells me it's not a simple task, and it requires help to learn. In other words you can't do it on your own. Should it turn out that the whole procedure is too much to put into a post then one of us should refer the OP to a source where he can learn how to do the job.

I disagree. I challenge you to find a public safety system administrator who freely gives out their system key and tells users to just ask for help from the internet in order to program a radio onto their system.

Re: Need to program a trunking radio
You will need the system key, a list of control channels, connect tone, an individual id for the unit, to know what type of coverage it has, ie (smartnet; smartzone; omnilink; wacamss) and a list of talkgroups and there id's as well as failsoft frequency info. To start that should be pretty good. Oh and btw there are more systems out there that are poorly administrated than there are properly controlled ones I'm willing to bet.

And hope the system didn't become dead to Spectras thanks to rebanding... only a select set of systems will still work post-rebanding without flashing the radio, and you can't flash a Spectra.
